Huge franchise, deserves a discussion thread. Here's what i once said about it -
final fantasy, wow, where to begin. i played all except FF3 and FF11
FF1 and 2, weren't the best games ever, i played them coz they were FF, but i wouldn't say i enjoyed them. FF2 is harder than FF1 but is a slightly better game.
FF3, the only place i can seem to get hold of an english version of FF3 is on handheld, i can't see handheld so i'm waiting for a PSvita that has a HDMI out port, then i'll get one to play on my TV
FF4, had a wicked story, very melodramatic, full of deceit and backstabbing. the first really good FF game (i can say that coz i haven't played FF3 yet, which i hear is also good)
FF5, much better game mechanics, the job system was cool. the two worlds forming one was cool. the problem was, the story let it down, it was a good story, but it was sandwiched between FF6 and FF4 which both had amazing story's.
FF6, this game was a masterpiece, it story was over the top, kefka was a true baddie, evil and nuts. every time something bad happened in that game, you thought ah well at least it can't get any worse, and it always did. the game had so many secrets and some of them were really subtle, like the identity of relms father. FF6 paved the way for all other FF games.
FF7, arguable the best FF game ever, though FF6 also holds the same claim. its hard to say which is best. anyway not much to say about ff7, if you a FF-fan then you know all about it. but i will say this game needs atleast a second play through the story is that crazy in place's
FF8 the black sheep of the final fantasy family. it a game you either loved or hated. i found the art style to be a bit off. i quite liked the whole extracting magic and using it to boost your stats. the story was ok, the game was really a love story. i don't think the game was anywhere near as good as ff7 tho
FF9, the game that went back to its roots. also the game that gave us the single best character ever "vivi" imo. behind all the cuteness FF9 was such a dark game, the whole premise was death. vivi was going to die and had to watch all the other mages die. all the summoners (almost all) were dead, a second planet was dying so the main baddie wanted to steal your planet. a dark, dark game but so great
FF10 who doesn't love FF10? the story was great, the mechanics were great, the side quests were great. i loved the sphere grid it was such a unique way of leveling up compared to all other FF games. the only thing that could possibly be a negative about this game was the voice acting, but still voice acting was still new in games back then. i have heard that they plan on releasing FF10 in HD, so i definitely be picking that up again.
FF11, i was never really in MMOs when FF11 was out
FF12, was a weird one, many thing about the game were good, like its been called "Final Fantasy does starwars" the world was good, so good it spawned spin-off's. two problems that i found with the game. 1) the gambit system was so stupid you could set it up so you didn't ever have to think a battle. 2) although the story was all about war, there was no bad guy, not a real one, not a main one, where was my kefka or sephiroth. a decent game that failed in certain areas
FF13 ******* piece of ****, almost ******* ruined FF, and then they bring out another ******* piece of **** FF13-2, and as if that wasn't enough they're going to bring out a third **** this **** give us FF15 instead
FF14 i have played FF14 it was broken, that all there is to say. i know they have completely redesigned the whole game, and its now in beta as FF14 reborn. i believe it's the first MMO to be completely remade while ppl were still playing it. sqaure enix have quite the ego, they woudln't let a FF numbered game flop as badly is FF14 first did. but to be fair i don think many game companies couldn't have pulled a game back like they have/hope to
in case you haven't noticed i love final fantasy. not as much as i love tekken, but still. and i always have a FF game on the go. atm i'm playing 7 i'm just at the end of the second disc and i just got my gold chocobo, "knights of the round" here i come

So the relaunch of FF14 has been a complete mess, but the launch of all MMOs is a mess. So this is nothing to worry about about, time will fix it. And all indications are the game is great. I'm going to leave it a month or so before trying it, let The launch mess sort its self out first.
FF15 announced for PS4. Am i excited, you bet i am, it looks great (well FF13 looked great in trailers) but i have high hopes for this FF15 T7 are the two games i'm most lokking forward too.
And in case you are wondering i'm playing FF8 ATM
