I just watched the Tekken Global Championships U.S. qualifiers stream and noticed that a lot of characters weren't selectable. Kunimitsu, Alex, Unknown, Miharu, Sebastian, Slim Bob, Tiger, P-Jack, Michelle, Angel, Ancient Ogre, and Violet seemed to be missing, along with a lost of stages. Are those characters banned or something? Or are they just playing an older arcade version? And if yes, why? I might be overseeing something since i'm not too well informed about how tourneys work (i wish we had ANY TT2 tourneys here in germany) but it still seemed strange to me. If i was taking part in those tournaments, i'd be pretty pissed about not being able to pick Kuni, Alex, or Miharu.

I don't think they were made yet since they changed the name to Tekken Unlimited Tag I guess.

It's the qualifiers for the global championship, it was just an hour ago. Tekken Tag Unlimited already exists for arcades, so i wonder why they would play on an older version. : (

It's the arcade version, not an older one. All the top row you see on consoles were added purely for consoles. They were playing on arcades because the global championship in S Korea will be played on arcades. I know of a few people that didn't go cause they only play with pads. And BT was taking the piss out if all of em

What? I didn't know all those characters were exclusive to consoles! What's the point in holding tourneys on arcades then? D:
I mean, why hold a GLOBAL tourney on an inferior version of the game?

You could say the inferior version is the console. Most of the other characters are duplicates. Having two of the same character is like playing on easy mode

You could say the inferior version is the console. Most of the other characters are duplicates. Having two of the same character is like playing on easy mode Absolutely not. XDHaving a bigger variety of characters is definitely better. None of these are 100% copies. Even the slightest differences will give you certain advantages/disadvantages in a lot of situations and might change your playstyle. The only two characters that have an identical move-set (minus special tag throws and item moves) are Kuma and Panda, and both are in the arcade version. And i prefer Alex over Roger, and Miharu over Xiao anyday, why would i have to go without Alex, Miharu, and Kuni, just because people might pick two similar characters? -w- Also, using two characters with similar move sets isn't an easy mode at all. Afterall it'll make it easier for your opponent to go against you too. There are just minor differences he'll have to know. +Kuni and Dr.B ain't clones anyways.

Anyway the finals are being played in S Korea, where they are going to be played on arcade. They obviously want the whole tournament to be played on the same platform. Plus there is only one place for a US competitor at the finals. What good would it be if a pad player won here then got over to S Korea and couldn't play with a stick.

I think in some cases an arcade tournament is a good thing. Sure the top row of characters does not exist but the fact alone that they are playing on ARCADES is a great thing to begin with. I don't know about any TTT2 arcade cabinets in Europe which is bad .

The console-only content was not allowed. That's the deal. Some tourneys allow it, some don't. If they don't, the reason given is usually that not everyone has that version of the game so it makes training unfair. If a player who uses Kunimitsu has entered the tournament, a person who doesm't have access to the console version of the game won't be able to prepare properly for a fight against that character.
I think it's lame too but that's just how it is sometimes.
I was watching that tourney on Twitch as well but then my internet started screwing up so I didn't finish watching it. Who won?
